Earlier this month we started to explore a little summer drain smarts with a few tips to keep your drains flowing efficiently. Today we have a few more handy tips to share with you and your family: easy tricks with maximum payoff, as taking that little bit of initiative now will save you an expensive drain repair later! Washing Machine Maintenance Your washing machine does a daily marathon over the summer. You’d think that winter (with all it’s muddy puddles and storms) would be the leading culprit in the battle to keep clothes clean. Summer, unfortunately, takes the dirty washing cake. During the summer, we’re likely to sweat through more outfits more frequently than any other month. Some days see us sweating within moments of stepping out of the shower! Aside from sweat, you’ll find (if you have children) that beach trips or swims in the pool will see you going through up to ten towels a day – especially if they decide to invite friends! Chlorine-coated towels need to be washed with haste. Leaving togs and towels to dry in the sun fades and sometimes hardens the fabric, so we are left with our washing machines as our only options for clean, usable swimming clothes and towels. Encourage your family to take extra care with the washing machine this summer. It can handle several extra loads, but the stress of being overloaded or left constantly running could see your machine calling it quits! We also encourage you to tug your machine away from the wall a little to allow room for your pipework. People often cram their machines right against their walls which ends up crushing the pipework connected at the back of the machine. Families, friends, and unflushable toilets Having a constant flow of family and friends over the holidays can be a lot of fun...that is, until one of them clogs your toilet! Over the summer your toilet is bound to undergo additional stress as an influx of family and friends use it multiple times a day. Keep your plunger on hand, but remember that the professionals at Maxey Wellington are readily available to handle your plumbing emergencies in Wellington. Also, if you are the family paying visits to another relative or friend then we recommend encouraging your kids to go easy on the toilet paper! Accidents happen and toilets are built to get messy – that’s totally understandable! But piling toilet tissue into the bowl to ‘cover up’ is going to cause more embarrassment than a mess might have if the toilet becomes blocked! As in our last blog, do remember that if you experience drainage problems in Wellington over the summer, the team at Maxey Wellington Plumbing are only a call away. We’ll respond fast and offer professional service to all your drainage emergencies in Wellington so you can safely and effectively use your drains over the summer! We hope you and your families have a safe and happy Christmas holiday and a bright New Year ahead! From the team at Maxey Plumbing Wellington. Comments are closed.
