Over time your drains collect food, soap and hair deposits that’ll cause blockages. Sometimes you’ll be able to get rid of the blockages yourself, without having to call in a Wellington plumber. We’ve included 3 steps below that should help you. Step 1: Plunger
The good old plunger is most people’s first option when taking care of a blocked drain. Partially fill your sink or tub with water (just over a quarter full). If you’ve got a double sink, you will need to block the other drain with a cloth or towel, otherwise you won’t be able to get any pressure using the plunger. Plunge over the drain, up and down rapidly, until the water in the sink begins to drain. If it does, it was just a small obstruction, and you no longer have a clogged drain! If not, it’s time to try step 2. Step 2: Remove obstructions Place a bucket underneath the sink trap to catch any water that may spill from the trap while disconnecting. Disconnect and remove the basin trap and remove any obstruction which could be causing a blockage. If it’s still blocked, it’s time to try step 3. Step 3: Call a Wellington Plumber – Maxey Plumbing! Finally, if these methods have failed to clear the clogged drain, it is time to call an expert. Continuing to try to unblock a clogged drain with other methods can often lead to disastrous results. So call Maxey Plumbing - 04 390 0135. Comments are closed.
