This is a pretty common issue we see as Plumbers. The drain has been blocked and is restricting water flow down the pipes. There are a list of variables that can cause these issues. Here are a few. - Tree Roots: Sounds a bit odd right, but tree roots look for water underground so are often attracted to the pipes. They may have grown round or twisted the underground piping.
- Fat, oil & grease down the drains: Over time these substances solidify and can cause a pretty nasty block. Products like Draino may solve the issue on a DIY level but often tougher chemicals are needed to unblock this kind of blockage.
- "Not down the toilet!!": If you have children you have probably said this before. A common cause of blockages in homes is people flushing things down the toilet that aren't intended to be flushed. Toilet paper is the only thing that should be flushed.
- Collapsed pipework: This is similar to the tree roots issue in that the pipes underground have moved. Perhaps an earthquake has shifted the ground slightly and the pipes have been compromised.
